    In short

    The short answer

Home care brings agreed support into the person’s own home; a care home provides accommodation and care in a residential setting. Home care may suit someone whose needs can be met safely at home, while residential care may be considered when the required environment or continuous support cannot be provided there.

    What to check

    • Compare whether the home can safely support the person’s assessed needs.
    • Compare the required hours, professional mix and overnight coverage.
    • Consider the person’s preference, routines, family support and total arrangement.

    Step by step

    How this works

    1. 1The home assessment

An assessor reviews the person’s needs, home, routines and risks, then confirms the care plan, professionals and hours required.

    2. 2What can be delivered at home

Care is delivered at home only when the assessment, professional scope and home environment make it safe and appropriate.

    3. 3How pricing works

The assessment is fixed-price; defined services use published prices, live-in care has a from price, and other ongoing and package care is quoted after assessment.

    4. 4What is recorded during care

Managed care is recorded against the care plan and reviewed when needs, risks or circumstances change.
