    In short

    When PEG support is suitable

A suitably skilled nurse can support an established PEG feeding plan at home when the assessment confirms it is safe. Care follows the prescribed plan, includes documentation and escalation, and does not replace hospital treatment where the person is unstable or the home is unsuitable.

    Who this is for

    • People with a PEG feeding plan
    • People discharged with enteral feeding
    • Families arranging skilled nursing
    • People needing documented ongoing support

    Step by step

    How this works

    1. 1The home assessment

An assessor reviews the person’s needs, home, routines and risks, then confirms the care plan, professionals and hours required.

    2. 2What can be delivered at home

Care is delivered at home only when the assessment, professional scope and home environment make it safe and appropriate.

    3. 3Escalation and the emergency boundary

Staff follow a documented escalation process, but emergencies must go directly to the emergency services.

    4. 4What is recorded during care

Managed care is recorded against the care plan and reviewed when needs, risks or circumstances change.
